Some of these medallions are here just to give you a little "show-and-tell" of The Portland Minting Company's more recent, and quite frankly, most favorite creations. Some of the medallions shown below are available for purchase. Prices, where applicable, follow the descriptive paragraphs.

Wings
was designed by Affordable Jewelry & Precious Metal as a veryspecial gift item appropriate for a variety of occasions, where the intent is to let someone know just how special, just how inspirational they have been. We once overheard a young lady, upon seeing this medallion, say to her female companion, "Oh wow, that would be just perfect for your dad on Father's Day." Turns out they both purchased a Wings medallion. Made our day.

Father's Day and Mother's Day and Christmas, retirements, birthdays and other occasions whereyou would want to let someone know how much they are appreciated is exactly why Roncreated this medallion. Wings is a beautiful, meaningful gift, one that will never be forgotten and it is available for purchase. By the way, the reverse on Wings has a wreath design and is perfect for engraving.

Oregon Trail Sesquicentennial
The Portland Minting Company was selected to be the official mint for the Oregon TrailSesquicentennial celebration in 1993. (That's a 150th anniversary, just in case you never heard the term"sesquicentennial." Believe me, before the celebration was announced, we never heard the term either.) While we were working on various design concepts for this project, Rodney brought upthe fact that an Oregon Trail Memorial half dollar was produced by the U.S. Mint, back in 1926.

We were able to get our hands on one of these coins, in mint condition (value: about $200.00 today),and the decision was made to use this coin as the basic design for our commemorative medallion. (Note:coins are currency, medallions are keepsakes and collectibles.) Obviously, this is a very goodlooking coin as was our medallion. Both honor our nation's pioneers on one side and the NativeAmerican on the other. We were delighted with the positive reception and publicity the medallion received and with the number of pieces that were purchased in everything from pure gold 1/10th ounce jewelry pieces and .999 fine silver medallions to antiqued bronze key chains.
Portland General Electric 100th Anniversary
This medallion was produced for the 100th anniversary of one of the country's largest and oldestutilities. Initially the medallion was produced in .999 fine, 1-ounce silver medallions, however, when the project was completed (or so we thought) we had a single bronze key chain producedand delivered to PGE's president as a little "thank you." Next thing we knew, thousands of thekey chains were being ordered so that every member of the organization could be given a keepsakeof this special event. Both the medallions and the key chains were struck using the same die.

By the way, the medallion shows, in remarkable, detail, the facility from which the first long-distancetransmission of electricity in the United States was generated. The other side of this medallion features a stylized representation of Portland General Electric's first electrical street lights.

Portland Rose Festival
Each year Portland, Oregon, the "City of Rose's," has a massive, multi-event celebrationappropriately called the "Portland Rose Festival." And, each year, The Portland Minting Companywas called upon to translate the graphic theme of the current year's celebration onto an official commemorative medallion.

These are very popular items that have been avidly collected for years by many, many individuals. Here are a couple of variations on the Rose Festival theme, some wereenameled (by hand) or selectively gold plated. This treatment, which costs in the area of $13.00 per side, is available on request.
